- Announcement: IBM (R) Object Technology Certification
- VisualAge (TM) for C++
-
- March 5, 1996
-
-
- IBM is pleased to announce the addition of the "VisualAge for C++"
- certifications to its object technology certification suite.
- These roles, available through the Professional Certification Program
- from IBM, continue to focus on both knowledge-based and performance-based
- certification testing.
-
- Like the VisualAge for Smalltalk, the VisualAge for C++ object technology
- certification roles are designed for professionals who are in the
- business of providing product-specific object-oriented application
- development services.
-
- The new professional object technology certification roles available on
- March 29, 1996 in the U.S. and Canada are:
- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate Developer
- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer
-
- To become a Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate
- Developer, individuals are required to prepare for and pass certification
- Test # 081, VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Proficiency Test. Test # 081
- is a closed-book, multiple-choice, knowledge-based test. A list of
- recommended prerequisites is available. Generally, individuals are
- recommended to have knowledge in object-oriented application
- development, C++ as an object-oriented programming language, Open Class (TM)
- libraries, rapid prototyping using VisualAge for C++ and visual modeling
- technique. The cost to write Test # 081 is US $150 to IBM employees and
- IBM customers.
-
- To become a Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer,
- individuals are required to first pass Test # 081 and then to prepare for
- and successfully complete Test/Course # N1973, VisualAge for C++
- Object-Oriented Prototyping Practicum. Test/Course # N1973 is a
- five-day performance-based assessment. In a team of three candidates
- and one advisor, participants prototype a solution to a case study
- that simulates an actual application scenario using VisualAge for C++.
- Participants will need to draw upon their technical knowledge of
- VisualAge for C++, team programming, object-oriented analysis and
- design, rapid prototyping methodology and visual modeling technique.
- They will also need to draw upon leadership, communication and time
- management skills, and deal with ambiguity and uncertainty as they
- scope the problem and size the effort. The cost to take Test/Course
- # N1973 is US $3,000.
-
- Once certified, individuals will receive program credentials that
- acknowledge their level of professional certification. Certified professionals
- can use these credentials to illustrate their ability to provide solid,
- capable service. Upon certification, individuals for both certification
- levels -- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate
- Developer and Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer ---
- will receive a certificate, lapel pin, certification logo (which can be
- used in advertisements or business literature) and will be included on
- the mailing list for the Professional Certification Program from IBM.
-
- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate Developers will
- also receive access to technical literature in a technical library and
- be recognized by IBM's BESTeam Program.
- For more information on the BESTeam Program, you may
- contact one of the following sources:
- IBM U.S. IBM Canada
- Telephone: (800) 426-1822 Telephone: (800) 426-2255 ext. 371
- option 6, option 1
-
- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developers will also receive
- access to engagement experiences in a technical library, a photo ID and,
- with their permission, have their names listed in the Professional
- Certification Program directory.
-
- The skills gained as a result of achieving the various object technology
- certification levels can help differentiate certified individuals from
- the competition. This competitive advantage will provide individuals
- with increased business opportunity when customers require object-oriented
- software expertise.
