  20. IBM is pleased to announce the addition of the "VisualAge for C++"
  21. certifications to its object technology certification suite.
  22. These roles, available through the Professional Certification Program
  23. from IBM, continue to focus on both knowledge-based and performance-based
  24. certification testing.

  26. Like the VisualAge for Smalltalk, the VisualAge for C++ object technology
  27. certification roles are designed for professionals who are in the
  28. business of providing product-specific object-oriented application
  29. development services.
  30.  
  31. The new professional object technology certification roles available on
  32. March 29, 1996 in the U.S. and Canada are:
  33.       Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate Developer
  34.       Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer
  35.  
  36. To become a Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate
  37. Developer, individuals are required to prepare for and pass certification
  38. Test # 081, VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Proficiency Test. Test # 081
  39. is a closed-book, multiple-choice, knowledge-based test.  A list of
  40. recommended prerequisites is available.  Generally, individuals are
  41. recommended to have knowledge in object-oriented application
  42. development, C++ as an object-oriented programming language, Open Class (TM)
  43. libraries, rapid prototyping using VisualAge for C++ and visual modeling
  44. technique.  The cost to write Test # 081 is US $150 to IBM employees and
  45. IBM customers.

  47. To become a Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer,
  48. individuals are required to first pass Test # 081 and then to prepare for
  49. and successfully complete Test/Course # N1973, VisualAge for C++
  50. Object-Oriented Prototyping Practicum.  Test/Course # N1973 is a
  51. five-day performance-based assessment.  In a team of three candidates
  52. and one advisor, participants prototype a solution to a case study
  53. that simulates an actual application scenario using VisualAge for C++.
  54. Participants will need to draw upon their technical knowledge of
  55. VisualAge for C++, team programming, object-oriented analysis and
  56. design, rapid prototyping methodology and visual modeling technique.
  57. They will also need to draw upon leadership, communication and time
  58. management skills, and deal with ambiguity and uncertainty as they
  59. scope the problem and size the effort.  The cost to take Test/Course
  60. # N1973 is US $3,000.
  61.  
  62. Once certified, individuals will receive program credentials that
  63. acknowledge their level of professional certification. Certified professionals
  64. can use these credentials to illustrate their ability to provide solid,
  65. capable service.  Upon certification, individuals for both certification
  66. levels -- Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate
  67. Developer and Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Developer ---
  68. will receive a certificate, lapel pin, certification logo (which can be
  69. used in advertisements or business literature) and will be included on
  70. the mailing list for the Professional Certification Program from IBM.

  72. Certified VisualAge for C++ Object-Oriented Associate Developers will
  73. also receive access to technical literature in a technical library and
  74. be recognized by IBM's BESTeam Program.

  83. with their permission, have their names listed in the Professional
